"Very transparent with their pricing which I appreciated. They actually replaced the valves and connectors instead of just hooking up to the old rusty ones. Great company and definitely will use again."

Questions Before You Replace Your Water Heater?

Find answers to the most common questions we get from Tucson homeowners.

Our standard RUUD tank replacement is $1567.78 for an electric water heater and $1734.18 for gas, including installation and a comprehensive warranty of 6 years on the tank, parts, and labor.

For ten years of matching coverage, our standard tank replacement is $1892.20 for electric and $2086.91 for gas.

Your free estimate confirms the right system for your home, goes over installation requirements, final price, and answers any additional questions you have.

Yes, they do. Our listed prices are for everything included in a typical water heater replacement job. Including new water supply connectors, a new water heater shut off valve, a new temperature-and-pressure relief valve, a new drain pan, removal and haul-off of your old unit. Gas tank installations also include a new gas supply connector and appropriate fittings.

What we mean by “typical” is the common setups we see in most homes. Sometimes, we’ll encounter water heaters installed in attics or inside the home under a kitchen counter. Those situations are uncommon and usually require more time and effort to replace.

If your project requires more than typical work, we’ll explain it upfront. You always get to approve the project and price before any work is started.

For the fastest service possible, call us, so we can check our earliest appointment available.

In most cases, we can be out same day or following day. We do prioritize water heater replacements, since we understand being without hot water can be a problem.

If you’re wondering how long it takes to complete a full replacement, it’s usually 2-4 hours once we are onsite.

Yes, it does. This is something you don’t often find with other contractors. Most contractors will provide a 1-year warranty on water heater installations. We match the labor warranty to the part and tank warranty. Making it an equal warranty across the board. With a 6-year tank warranty, we match it with a labor warranty, so your coverage is 6-years on the tank, 6-years on the parts, and 6-years on the labor.

The right size depends on how your household uses hot water. So, it is relative to the home. If you are happy with your current hot water capacity, just go with the same size tank you have.

If you want to consider a different water heater tank with more capacity, we can certainly look into that for you during our free estimate. We’ll help you select the best system for your household routine.

There isn’t a universal “best” brand. However, after 24 years serving Tucson homeowners, I can confidently say going with a RUUD tank, with comprehensive warranty coverage, is a choice you can rely on.

Most conventional standard tank water heaters are built using the same core fundamental technology. Yes, there are differences in color, design, and placement of components. But the core fundamental technology is the same.

This is because organizations like The Department of Energy, and AHRI (air conditioning, heating, & refrigeration institute) establish performance & safety standards that water heater manufacturers must adhere to, which creates uniformity across water heaters. This standard approach across brands creates similar performance characteristics, with the only noticeable difference being how each water heater brand chooses to label or market their products.

Instead of getting hung up on which brand to choose, I suggest focusing on two crucial factors:
1. The comprehensiveness of the warranty.
2. The availability of warranty parts.

RUUD: The Clear Advantage in Warranty Coverage & Local Support.
This is where RUUD water heaters stand out. Unlike most other water heater brands, RUUD stocks warranty parts locally. So, in the event of a warranty claim, parts are readily available, minimizing having to wait for parts while you don’t have hot water.
And, through Plumber of Tucson, RUUD’s Water Heater offers a 3-part comprehensive warranty, which is one of the best warranties you’ll find on a standard tank water heater.

The best answer does depend on the plumbing setup of your home.

In general, if you currently have a gas tank and want to upgrade to a high-efficiency unit, it’s most cost effective to go with a tankless water heater.

If you currently have an electric tank and want to upgrade, it’s most cost effective to go with a heat pump water heater.

Yes, you can go with a heat pump water heater if you currently have a gas-powered water heater and vice versa. It does require a bit more work than a typical installation, but we’re happy to help with whatever option you feel is best for your home. We can discuss the options with you during our free estimate visit.

Yes. Permits are required by Pima county. Permits do cost a little extra dependent on the type of installation. Usually it’s an additional $150-$350. Many people don’t want the hassle of getting a permit and inspection, but the process is very straightforward. We simply file some paperwork with the local county, they conduct a quick video inspection, and that’s it. It’s fairly simple and painless.

Yes, homeowners can legally perform their own work and obtain their own permits. Conditions do apply, such as when the property is intended for the owner’s own occupancy rather than a sale or rental. Before starting work, just check with Pima County or the City of Tucson on the requirements for you to do so.

If your water heater is 10-years of age or older, it’s usually more cost-effective to replace it.

If it’s under 10-years of age, repairing it can be a cost-effective option.

Whether or not you should repair or replace does depend on the specific problem you are experiencing. This is something we can diagnose and estimate on when we are at your home for your free estimate.

Not necessarily. Faster hot water delivery is generally delivered by a hot water recirculating pump. This is a pump that can be installed on your water heater tank. We offer this upgrade for only $850 when you have us install a water heater for you.

Yes, we do. To see about approval, reach out to us via email or by phone and we can discuss payment options.

Yes, we can. We can install any water heater of your choosing. Most water heater installations will range in cost from $500 to $800, but it does depend on the model and specific installation.
